Pluto’s largest moon Charon has what at first glance appears to be a moat-like region on its surface, as detailed in a puzzling new image just released by NASA’s New Horizons team. A high-resolution rectangular inset inside a larger global image of the estimated 750-mile wide Charon shows surface features that appear to be a moat-like geological depression surrounding some sort of natural mountainous peak. This can clearly be seen in the upper left corner of the inset photo which covers a surface area spanning an estimated 240-miles.
